Airbnb’s Seoul meetup party with Joe Gebbia

playplanet went to Airbnb’s Seoul meetup party !

We got an invitation from Airbnb saying there will be the evening party with Joe Gebbia, the co-founder of airbnb as they salute their hosts, travelers and the vibrant Sharing Economy community in Seoul.

The meetup party was at ‘cafe aA’ which is in Hongdae, one of the Korea’s popular places for artists and university students where full of lively atmosphere is.

There were so many people lining up even before the party started.

IMG_1740At the party, Korean bartender was serving Makgeolli, Korean rice wine, one of my favorite liquor which tastes very.. um… yummy !

(I don’t know else way to describe it, so forgive me 😉  More about Makgeolli click!)

As you can see in these pictures, the party was almost packed with people.

Regardless of sex and age, people whoever interested in travel, airbnb and Sharing Economy gathered and exchanged their thoughts and had opportunities to discover new relationships.

This little booth is for hand drip coffee. Guess these baristas must have been crazily busy grinding beans and dripping coffee to meet pending orders !

Personally, I think the main contributor to make this party successful was the talented DJ who played vibrant music through out the whole party which is tightly tuned into the atmosphere and it really heated up the air.

For the record, Hongdae is well known hot place for musicians and there are many kinds of clubs and indie music bands performing their art.

About halfway through the party, Joe Gebbia, the co-founder of Airbnb showed up!

playplanet read from the newspapers that airbnb is planning to launch its business at Seoul as it targets East Asia.
(For the related article, click)

playplanet also met Joe Gebbia and explained our business model which is in the ecosystem of the Sharing Economy that Airbnb emphasizes.
(There is another posting explaining Sharing Economy. click(Korean), click(English) )

In the middle of the party, Joe Gebbia and airbnb staffs had time to introduce themselves and Joe told the story about how they started Airbnb and all the rise and fall he experienced as the business grows.

He also underlined the importance of Sharing Economy which focuses on sharing rather than producing something brand new. For example, Airbnb facilitates people to share their home and exchange their experiences that they already have to the travelers not to build new houses or create another something new. In this Sharing Economy all they have to focus is to develop more what they already have and like to share better with others.

We playplanet really got inspired to meet Joe Gebbia and Airbnb which is the leading business of the sharing economy and expanding successfully with its good will. playplanet also aims to grow decent to throw party like this soon !  haha

It was a night 🙂

Borneo Project

In this party, playplanet introduced the new project about the Borneo Island in Indonesia , the main inhabitat of Orangutan but now in danger to be destroyed due to heavy logging and planting palm trees for palm oil instead.

Sun, founder of playplanet, introducing Borneo Project and Orangutan.

playplanet believes by sustainable tourism we can support the preservation activity going on in Borneo Island and also we could find way together to travel Borneo in eco-friendly way such as not using soap made from palm oil, also heightening the conception to preserve nature including Orangutan.

Furthermore, playplanet asked for cooperation from How2company and gathered people (who were mostly designers) to participate in promoting Borneo Project by designing Orangutan eco t-shirt or other creative ways that would be possible.

One Fine Day When I Met Loro Blonyo

One Fine Day When I Met Loro Blonyo

Loro Blonyo

It was the day after New Year when I met Loro Blonyo. It was the day when I learned about living in harmony. About letting go. About surrendering. About making peace with yourself, with the universe.

It was the day when I learned a lot from Solo – an old city in Central Java – Indonesia. Where I learned more from someone old and thoughtful. Where I learned something new from old people.

It was the day when Solo taught me about living slowly. Enjoy life as much as you can. Enjoy it slowly like when youeat your favorite meals, you always want to enjoy every taste melting peacefully in your mouth.

It was the day when the symbol of The Goddess Sri and God Wisnu, who’s been living with Javanese culture for a long time, taught me again about looking deeper into yourself. As the girl who grew up in modern Javanese Culture, sometimes I take things for granted. That day, I needed to dig deeper meaning about the symbol itself. Something beyond myself, yourself and themselves.

(The Goddess Sri and God Wisnu)의 상징에 대해 배운 날이다.

Yes, it was the day when I realized, I almost knew nothing about my culture (I thought I knew a lot about it, because I’ve been living in Javanese Culture since my childhood).

Image Then, it was the day when I fell in love again with my culture, with the people, and myself after all.

That day, One Fine Day When I Met Loro Blonyo.

 Novi Kresnamurti

*Loro Blonyo : Some literatures said that Loro Blonyo is a Symbol of Goddess Sri- the God of fertility and God Wisnu- the God of Sustenance. For most Javanese people, Loro Blonyo is not only a "friend" of farmers but also a "guardian angel" for every family. It's a symbol of healthy relationship.
*The word of "Harmony" really hit me that day. It reminded me again about how Javanese people live their life. But, I also learned that "Harmony" also including how to keep the balance, let go and also surrender. It's not only about ourselves, it's about how to live in harmony with other people and the universe.

playplanet angel’s Thai Visit (3) “The nature & people”

The Nature & People

– People living with the Nature. “The local Community & Doi Inthanon”

The next morning came ! I really had a good sleep in my cozy bed.

I’ve heard many times at school or from other sources that the nature is important to the human and we should try to preserve them.

But I couldn’t actually “feel” why the nature is important.
Our life seems so far away from the nature, driving on the asphalt and living in the apartments made of cements.

But I heard we are going on the eco-tour together with the nature conservationist to the
Doi Inthanon, the highest mountaintop in Thailand (2,565 meters) located in Chiang Mai and also the major watershed for all central Thailand. [for more information CLICK]

And his name is P.Zack ( hope I spelled it right !)
(P.Zack in Doi Inthanon)

( He was always holding a book in his bag that was about birds living in Thailand)

And.. I think I saw this one .. maybe .. haha

P.Zack told me the name of the bird I saw.. but I can’t really tell the difference between birds.. yet T.T

I haven’t lived in the rural area where I can feel the direct effect of the nature, but in the long run the damage of the nature surely affect us even living in the city quietly and devastatingly.

Well, apart from the environmental effect on us, I just like the nature cause I feel I’m real alive in our mother nature.

It seemed real fortunate for me that the people in the forefront with the nature sensitively feel and try hard to preserve the nature on behalf of us.

After trekking Doi Inthanon a little, we had LUNCH at Mr.Deang, the birding centre ❤

The food was sooooo delicious and even it was literally home-made ! I especially liked the green .. um… thing. It was adequately sweet and tasted healthy ! Umm Yummy~ my mouth starts watering again.

Anyway, back to the point 🙂

At the birding (bird watching) centre I could see so many visitors have been here.

See all the business cards covering the whole side of wall ! @.@

After the pleasant meal and a cup of tea at the bird watching centre,

we headed to the local community,  the Phamon Village.

After many curves and bumps on a country road 😛

and We got here !!  wow..

Look at the beautiful scenery ..

( Kids swinging mingled with the nature. )

With the community leaders, we playplanet shared thoughts about the sustainable travel in local communities and ways to make a beneficial impact through travel.

For us, tourism is a mean for community development and environment conservation. Through tourism, can make a change.

Surrounded by beautiful scenery,

  Let’s. playplanet !!
